Meet Shanna Dextradeur, Program Assistant, Employment & Training Services Team

What Is Your Role at FCWS?

I am a Program Assistant with the Employment and Training Services team at Frederick County Workforce Services, working under the Temporary Work Experience (TWE) Program. In this role, I have had the opportunity to support a variety of programs and projects, contributing to our services that help individuals achieve their employment goals.

What Do You Enjoy Most About Your Work?

What I enjoy most is knowing that my work makes a difference. Whether it's solving a problem, improving a process, or helping someone. I find it very rewarding to support others and contribute to a positive team environment.

What Does “Workforce Development” Mean to You Personally?

Personally, workforce development is huge. Not long ago, I struggled to find a job because I did not have enough experience on my resume. Through Frederick County Workforce Services’ TWE program, I was able to gain the experience I needed. This opportunity gave me confidence, guidance, and a chance to move forward in my career. Now I get to be part of a team that helps others do the same by providing opportunities, building skills, and showing people that they can succeed.

Share One Accomplishment, Project, or Moment That Makes You Proud of the Work You Do.

A project I’m proud of is the Elevate Alumni Outreach Survey Report, my first major project at FCWS. This report provided valuable feedback that helped us improve our support, services, and resources to better meet customer needs. The insights from this project directly influenced positive changes in how we serve our customers, make a meaningful impact on our work and what we provide.

What Is One Thing People Might Be Surprised to Learn About Your Role?

One thing people might be surprised about my role is how much is done behind the scenes. As a program assistant, I don't just handle administrative tasks. I get to support projects, contribute to outreach efforts and help shape resources that directly affect the services our customers receive. It's rewarding to know that even the small details I work on play a part in helping people move forward in their careers.

What Is Your Top Career or Workforce Tip?

Whether you're currently job searching or not, it's always important to keep building new skills. The career industry is constantly changing so having a diverse skill set will help you stay adaptable. By continuing to learn and grow, you will be better prepared for any career changes or future opportunities as the workforce evolves.
