Janelle Grimes
Meet Janelle Grimes, Program Specialist, Youth and Young Adults.
What Is Your Role at FCWS?
I support youth and young adults, ages 14–24, as they explore and shape their future pathways. Through engaging, hands-on activities, I guide them in career exploration, identifying their interests, and building career readiness skills. These experiences are designed to be both educational and enjoyable, helping participants understand how the skills they develop will benefit them in their future careers. In addition to working with youth, I also engage with the broader community, offering support to diverse populations and assisting individuals through Job Search Support walk-ins and scheduled appointments.
What Is Your Role at FCWS?
I love making an impact on people and watching them succeed. Watching the growth is very rewarding to me and being able to help those in need is what matters the most.
What Does “Workforce Development” Mean to You Personally?
When I think of Workforce Development, I see it as a journey; from discovering personal interests to identifying the education or certifications needed to achieve career goals. It includes gaining experience through volunteering, building a strong résumé, practicing interview skills, and much more. While the process requires dedication and effort, the reward is finding fulfillment in doing work you’re passionate about.
Share One Accomplishment, Project, or Moment That Makes You Proud of the Work You Do.
During a Job Search Support appointment, I was helping a customer review biotech jobs, and we came across a company they were interested in. They wanted to start networking there to get their name known while continuing their job search. I reached out to a contact I have at the company, and as a result, they were able to attend a networking event. Networking is important when job searching—taking that next step to introduce yourself to other businesses can make a big difference.
What Is One Thing People Might Be Surprised to Learn About Your Role?
In my position, I do lots of research and preparation on the back end. I want to ensure that all individuals who I serve are supported and prepared for the next steps no matter where they are currently at in the job searching process.
What Is Your Top Career or Workforce Tip?
Stay determined, keep putting in the work, and stay motivated—it will all be worth it in the end.
