Staying on Track: Simple Ways to Build Daily Reminders, Accountability, and Motivation

By Rena Larkin, Certified Empowerment and Motivational Professional, Employment & Training Consultant

Staying consistent with daily tasks—especially those tied to mindset or personal growth—can be harder than it sounds. Knowing what to do isn’t always the challenge; remembering to do it and following through is. The prompts below are designed to help you think through simple reminders, supportive accountability, and meaningful rewards that make consistency more achievable.

Reminders

  • How will you remember to do that each day?

  • What kind of structure can you place around yourself to make sure to remember to do that consistently?

  • What worked for you in the past when you needed to be reminded to do something like this?

  • How can you become more aware of this negative thinking pattern? What clues can you pay attention to?

  • What circumstance seem to set this pattern off? How could you become more aware of those triggers so you catch yourself before you go down this road?

Suggestions:

  • Use post it notes on mirrors, car dash

  • Daily reminder to think positive

  • Keep a progress chart posted on the fridge

  • Review an affirmation every morning and repeat throughout the day

Accountability

  • Would being held accountable increase your chances of success?

  • What qualities would you appreciate in an accountability partner?

  • Who would be an effective accountability partner for this task?

  • What do you need from this person?

  • What will you ask this person to do for you?

  • What accountability question would you like to be asked?

Rewards

  • What is something you could reward yourself with when you get this done?

  • That sounds like hard work. How will you celebrate it when you reach your goal?

  • What reward could you put at the end of this that would help you look forward to tackling this?

  • Let’s celebrate – that’s a great accomplishment! How can you stand back (or share this moment with those you love) and say, “This was a very good day or week!”

Staying consistent doesn’t mean being perfect—it means being intentional. By setting up reminders that work for you, surrounding yourself with accountability, and giving yourself something to look forward to, daily tasks become more manageable and even motivating. Progress happens one small choice at a time. Celebrate the effort, notice the growth, and remember that every day you show up is a step forward. Some days will feel bigger than others, but each one counts.
