From Virtual Reality to Real Careers: FCWS Celebrates First HVAC Cohort

At the end of June, FCWS celebrated the successful completion of our first HVAC Cohort, graduating eight participants. This innovative pilot blended virtual reality (VR) training technology with hands-on workforce coaching to prepare individuals for meaningful careers in the HVAC industry.

Throughout the eight‑week program, participants were able to earn industry‑recognized credentials including OSHA 10, NATE Ready to Work, and EPA 608 Universal certifications, while completing self-paced, VR-based training through National Trade Tech. In addition, they received hands-on coaching and mentorship through our partnership with Tuckers Air Conditioning, Heating & Plumbing, a local company with a reputation for quality.

The time spent with the team at Tuckers played a pivotal role in the cohort’s success. Beyond teaching technical skills, participants-built confidence, broadened perspectives, and sparked new possibilities and opportunities. Strong employer engagement ensures that training programs reflect real-world needs and prepare job seekers for success.

The program’s impact reached far beyond technical skill-building. During the graduation celebration, one participant who completed all credentials shared, “This is not just the end of a program; it is the beginning of a new chapter in my life.” His dedication and hard work throughout the program paid off when he accepted a position with Tucker's Air Conditioning, Heating & Plumbing. This moment was a powerful reminder that workforce development is ultimately about creating opportunity, strengthening confidence, and opening doors to a brighter future.

FCWS extends our sincere appreciation to our partners, National Trade Tech and Tuckers Air Conditioning, Heating & Plumbing. Their partnership, expertise, and dedication were instrumental in making this pilot a success. This program is a great example of what is possible when strong partnerships, innovative training methods, and dedicated support come together.
