FCWS Partners Recognized at Maryland's First Recovery Friendly Workplace Convening

The Maryland Department of Labor held its first-ever Recovery Friendly Workplace Convening in June at Frederick Health Village, honoring the strength and resilience of workers impacted by substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health conditions.

Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller congratulated employers across Maryland for helping reduce the stigma surrounding substance use disorder and for creating supportive environments for employees in recovery. Keynote speaker Dr. Brandee Izquierdo shared her lived experience, explaining how finding employment during early recovery provided her with the purpose, dignity, and connection necessary to rebuild her life and ultimately lead behavioral health policy at the national level. The event was attended by organizations, businesses, and recovery-friendly workplace champions from across Maryland.

Locally, FCWS’s Recovery Is Good Business program has worked with more than a dozen local businesses that have embraced the commitment to adopt recovery-friendly practices. One such partner, Phoenix Mecano, was recognized as a Regional Champion – Recovery Friendly Workplace.

Congratulations to Phoenix Mecano and to all our Recovery Is Good Business partners for demonstrating how recovery-friendly practices can support employees impacted by SUD and mental health challenges.
