Youth S.T.E.M. Scholarships:
The Frederick County Workforce Development Board and Frederick County Workforce Services announce the 2008-2009 S.T.E.M. Scholarship applicant search. The S.T.E.M. Scholarship Foundation has awarded eight academic scholarships to area high school and college students ranging from $1,000-$2,500. This scholarship is geared towards high school seniors and college students who are continuing their studies in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (S.T.E.M.) career-related field. The S.T.E.M. career-related fields are highly competitive and are high-growth, high-demand industries in Frederick County. Summer Jobs Program:
The Summer Jobs Program is designed for Frederick County residents, 14-21 years of age, wishing to obtain summer employment. In addition, the program also requires the student have a barrier to obtaining employment. All forms and applications may be downloaded below. Please be aware that applications are no longer being accepted for the 2008 Summer Jobs Program.

Career Passport:
Career Passport is a valuable 17-hour training program designed for youth 16-21 years old. Using an entertaining, yet challenging curriculum, students are taught necessary skills to successfully search and obtain employment positions. At the end of the program, students receive credit from Frederick Community College and have the opportunity to obtain professional assistance in finding a paid internship or job.
Job Corps:
Job Corps provides free education and hands-on technical training in high growth career fields such as health occupations, office assistant, culinary arts, security training, and construction trades. For youth and young adults ages 16-24. Call Laurie Ballow at 301-600-2531 for more information.
Monthly Youth Newsletter:
Read the monthly youth newsletter and keep informed of upcoming events and programs happening within the youth services department. From new job listings and upcoming workshops, to exciting events planned for youth, the newsletter is a one-stop source for all the latest youth happenings.

Job Shadow Opportunities:
Students 14-21 years of age have the opportunity to do some career exploration while shadowing a professional in the field of their career interest. Through hands-on learning, these students are able to gain practical experience and apply their education to the real world. Previous Job Shadow day sites have been Bechtel, AOPA, The Paul Mitchell School, Creative Colors, and the City of Frederick. If interested, please phone Frederick County Workforce Services at 301-600-2255 and speak to a Youth Services Specialist.
GED Program:
For youth and adults interested in completing their high school education, the Business and Employment Center offers a flexible program that allows individuals to “drop-in” for tutoring on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday anytime between 9-12 p.m.
Job Fairs:
Frederick County Workforce Services hosts several job fairs throughout the year. Youth 16 and older are encouraged to attend these events. Check DLLR's current job fair schedule. Click here for information regarding job fairs at the Business and Employment Center (BEC).
Leadership Opportunities
Youth Advisory Team (YAT):
The YAT is a unique program that gives students the opportunity to voice their thoughts, opinions, and feedback to those individuals in Frederick County making decisions about the future. The Annual Teen Summit is one of the main activities the YAT designs and implements. Each year, one or two YAT members are selected to also serve on the Youth Council of the Frederick County Workforce Development Board.

Teen Summit:
Designed by Frederick County youth, for Frederick County Youth, the Teen Summit is an all-day leadership event aimed at bringing together Frederick County youth who are interested in working together with their peers to contribute new ideas and make a difference in Frederick County. During the Summit, youth are given the unique opportunity to speak to local politicians, explore and discuss solutions to issues of mutual importance with their peers, and attend interactive workshops on a variety of topics.
