Why are employers making job search so difficult? I used to be able to walk into a business, talk with the owner or manager, and I’d be hired on the spot with a handshake. Now I have to write a dozen resumes, change them every time I send them out, apply online, and on and on. The old way was so easy! Why can’t we do it that way anymore?
For better or worse, the world has changed, and it’s taking job search with it.
At this point, you need to make a choice. Do you want to do things the way you always have? Or do you want to get a new job?
To get a new job, you need to adapt to new ways. You don’t have to like it, but you’ll need to do it without complaining.

We even have a class on social networking (mostly LinkedIn.) You may not want to use LinkedIn; but before you make that decision, you should know that most employers use it as a recruiting tool. It’s been said that if you don’t have a LinkedIn profile, you might as well not exist (for job search purposes, anyway.)
Talking about “the way it used to be” suggests several things to an employer, none of which you want associated with you. It will make him/her think that you are old, set in your ways, unable or unwilling to adapt or accept suggestions. Would you want to work with someone like that?
